Why I Am Jumping Into The Oversaturated World of Travel Blogging

“The world is a book and those who do not travel read only a page” – Saint Augustine

It seems that the internet and social media have narrowed the distance between our homes and exotic foreign places. We now see pictures of far flung destinations almost daily. When friends and acquaintances travel abroad, we can see their experiences in real time. With our phones we can access maps, language apps, any information necessary to survive in remote locals. With such visibility and accessibility, the desire and ability to travel is growing.

I love traveling and living abroad; sharing photos and talking about my travels (who doesn’t); trying (and usually failing) to speak in a foreign language, to bridge a communication gap that can seem insurmountable; the feeling of sharing a new city/country/experience with a beloved family member or friend; the follies that sometimes arise from spontaneous risk taking and opportunities for adventure that abound.

Traveling is a very worthwhile endeavor. Traveling has made me a better person. I have found that people the world over are similar to the ones I know. That they are willing to give me a chance if I am willing to give them a chance. Travel makes the world seem smaller, more intimate, kinder.

I hope to convince people with limited travel experience that travel can be affordable and life changing. It should be as much a part of our lives as our loved ones, our jobs, our hobbies. I will share stories, trips, pitfalls and anything else I wish I had known in the hopes it will be easier for those who come after me.
